First Two Minutes of the Final Film

The film opens to a news report showing a news reporter standing inside science department of a government. They explain where they are (the place where Markov sealed a weapons deal with privatised scientists). They are talking about how a former peacemaker and his allies has declared war on another country who has it's own set of allies. During the report, a montage of shots containing pictures of Markov shaking hands with important people over the top of the reporters voice. The last shot is a still of him shaking hands with a man in a lab coat and then the news report cuts back to the reporter. There is a rumbling sound in the distance. The room starts to shake and the reporter says, "what was that?" The screen goes black and the title of the film comes up. this then fades and a title saying '3 years later' is along the bottom. An army of five or six people run through a forest/field towards a building. They run up to the top floor but one person is told to stay and keep guard on a lower floor. When the soldier is alone, they are ambushed by enemy soldiers. It looks as though they have no chance of escape. Suddenly, their hands begin glow.

Genre Research

Sub Genres

Types of characters:
Usually, in most Action/Sci Fi movies, you get at least one of each of the following types of characters in the story:
  • A strong leader, usually a man, that takes charge in everything they do. They make the decisions, are usually the good guy and normally survive, with a few near deaths along the way.
  • The leaders companion, usually better known for being resourceful than being useful physical confrontation. Has an equal chance of either dying or surviving, but always ends up helping the leader achieve.
  • The opposing enemy. This person us usually made out to be the superior, but proved not to be in the film.
  • Followers of both sides. These people are the main people to be involved in confrontation between the two sides, fighting for what they think is right.
  • The higher authorities. These usually go against fighting the enemy and starting war, but are persuaded otherwise.
  • A damsel in distress. This person will probably have some sort of connection with the leader, and is being held/gets taken by the enemy to spite them.

Typical Story lines:
When talking about a typical Action/Sci Fi movie, the following storylines are usually pretty relevant:
  • Aliens have come into contact with earth and/or wish to invade.
  • A virtual reality program becomes self aware and attempts to attack.
  • A brain controlling disease spreads and it becomes down to a small minority of uninfected people to save humanity.
  • Time travel malfunction leads to a character being trapped in another time/dimension.
  • Time travel is used to prevent a major disaster.
Mise-en-scene
  • Costumes are usually extremely futuristic, however not always. With Action/Sci Fi films, military uniform is very popular, especially if the movie includes war.
  • Make up would usually depend on whether the film is futuristic or not. If so, make up and prosthetics would be used to create a synthetic, yet realistic extra terrestrial species.
  • Props include, as previously mentioned, futuristic technological devises and weapons. These normally include any starships, laser guns, intelligent computers, transporter devices and many other examples.
  • The characters are accompanied with a futuristic surrounding, such as a space ship or a futuristic city, with technology that advances modern technology.

Film Ideas

Film Idea 1
A teenage girl has been going to a therapist for a number of years because she struggles to distinguish the difference between what is reality and what is a delusion. The girl’s family have insisted she sees this therapist after being diagnosed with insomnia, causing illusions and isolation, but she is determined to prove she can cope. The movie opens with the girl sat with her therapist, discussing her condition, however the conversation is extremely one sided. As the therapist continues to make conversation, it becomes clear that this session has another person included, but either the girl or the therapist ever addresses them. This third person turns out to be a recurring illusion the girl sees of another teenager who claims to be an emissary of Lucifer, who has been continuously, disrupts her life to get her attention. This ‘possessed girl’ makes many remarks towards people she meets, intrudes in situations and causes events only she can hear that become so realistic she can't tell whether it is just an illusion, from minor things like singing to her while she sleeps, or by showing her people she cares for die brutally.

Film Idea 2
The story opens with a teenage girl going through a normal day any other British teen would, going to college, in certain domestic situations, meeting friends. Then one night her parents decide to go out for their anniversary meal and weekend away, leaving her home alone with her best friend. While she is watching a TV show, she decides to go into the kitchen and make her and her friend a cup of tea, but when she reaches for the sugar, it falls off the counter, just as she repeats a spell mentioned in the TV show. She see’s it as just an accident, but small things like this have been happening multiple times. As a joke, that night when her friend is sleeping she tests her theory of having the power by googling the ancient greek terms and testing what they mean. It ends up becoming true, and they discover that the TV show is based on traditional beliefs of Warlocks and Sears. The middle of the movie is just the two girls researching the beliefs, finding spells and trying to discover why she has this blessing. It ends on the girl discovering she was blessed by her great aunt 13 days after she was born, after her enraged husband vowed to kill the girl after seeing a vision telling him to do so, as she was destined to cause great destruction. The Great Aunt tried to ensure him, with proof, there the baby’s heart was pure, and that he had been tricked Dolos, greek god of guile, but this drove anger into Dolos’ heart, leading to her husband's death, and to the blessing. They realise that blessing had also left a curse on her Great Aunt much like the ancient myth of Cassandra, but it is only effective to the mortal.

My Storylines

Idea One-
A teenage girl wakes up on a average morning, as she gets out of bed and walks to go to the bathroom as she walks through the doorway, in possibly embarrassing pyjamas, when she emerges on the other side she is in a completely different place. People look at her with funny looks due to her attire, so she quickly goes back through the door and ends up back in her room. Bravely she tries the door again but this time she just goes out into her hallway, so she writes it off as she's still half asleep and goes about her day normally. Later on that day as she is leaving class she ends up emerging in another building of the college which is where she has her next lesson so she is happy about this one mistake, but then as she tries to go through the door to her next classroom she ends up going to another of the college buildings, as she tries to go back through the door she ends up in another random place, she keeps going back through the doors but never going back to where she wants to be. Until eventually she ends up walking in on two men murdering someone and she's so shocked she cries out in shock. She'd then turn and attempt to go back through the doors but now her weird power doesn't seem to work and she simply ends up in the room beyond and the men follow her in, she manages to get past them in her desperation and the door takes her back to college. In her panic she confesses the weird events of the day to her best friend, and he fails to believe her rather thinking she's ill and that she's seeing things. So the protagonist takes his advice and goes about her days casually and tries to forget whatever happened to her as it seems to have disappeared again. But then, as she and her guy best friend are walking back from college she spots the guys just as they spot her and begin to chase her. She then takes her friend through a door and they end up far away, in safety, and he now believes her. Then it happens that the guys follow them through the doors unexpectedly so she has to lead them through many more doors in order to escape them, but the guys continue to chase them. They keep going until they find somewhere to hide, and they wait in silence until the guys run past them. The girl then declares she wants to find more people like her, if the bad guys can do it then there must be more. She doesn't want to take her friend with her in case its risking his life too, but he insists on helping her so they set out to find them.

Idea Two-
A group of friends are walking through town when they hear a plane overhead, which is strange for where they live so they stop to look. Things go black after that and then they wake up nothing seems to have changed so they go about things like nothing has happened, writing it off. As they go about their day its shown that they have a virus, where they end up coughing, excessive sweating, and coughing up blood and as they talk to other people they pass on this virus. Eventually people start dying, but there are a few people who survive, and it turns out that they are immune to it. Only one person survives from the original group of friends so they meet up with other survivors and together they find out that the virus had come from the plane which was British Government issue, because they wanted to get rid of the whole town, seeing as it had the highest crime rates in the whole country. But in order for the whole town to be restarted everyone had to be erased, so they send in a hit squad. Knowing their lives are in danger the survivors prepare for a battle, mind that they would all be criminals, and in the end they manage to win against the hit squad.

Film Idea 1
A Russian billionaire called Markov managed to get himself into a position of power by branding himself as a peacemaker and gained the trust of the world leaders. He manipulated countries into forming an alliance with one another until the world was split into two sides. It wasn't long before a nuclear war broke out and left Markov to control his new world. However, a small group of politicians were weary of Markov's motives and formed a new independent army. This army survived the nuclear war and fight to destroy Markov and his army. One of the soldiers has a secret that is the army's main chance of success. They were exposed to high levels of radiation when a nuclear bomb was unleashed onto their town but somehow they survived and were left with unknown powers that they find hard to control. The soldier, Yuri, is believed to be the only saviour and, unknown to them, is a legend shared between villages and towns.

Film Idea 2
The PM is kidnapped by rogue agents hired by his own corrupt and manipulative government, who use them as a pawn for their own gain. When the agents reach Scotland, they are intercepted and the PM is saved by a Scottish 'guide'. The guide soon recognises who it is and realises how much danger the PM is in as most people, especially outside of England, want the PM dead because they don't realise that it is the government and not the PM who is corrupt. The guide, seeing an opportunity for change, offers the PM a choice: come with the guide and they will take the PM home or find their own way back. However, there's a catch because 'the guide' not only takes people in physical journeys but emotional and mental ones too. The guide explains that they will show the PM what their government had been hiding from them and what life is really like for people. He hesitantly agrees.
